Salts Mill

This sketch is based on a photograph of Salts Mill, taken during the Christmas season of 2022. Located in the heart of Saltaire, the historic mill is home to the 1853 Gallery, which houses one of the largest collections of work by renowned artist David Hockney. Living nearby, I feel incredibly fortunate to be near such an inspiring cultural landmark.

Salts Mill is a haven for art enthusiasts, offering original artworks, prints, books, and a curated selection of artists’ materials. It remains a continual source of creativity and inspiration.

This particular scene captured my attention—the warm glow of the mill’s interior lights spilling onto the quiet streets of Saltaire, set against the backdrop of a starry winter night.
