This sketch marks one of my first experiences with live drawing. As a family, we’ve always been ‘drawn’ to the Northumberland coastline—its windswept bays, inviting pubs, and majestic castles make it a favourite destination year after year.
Sketching and drawing offer me a welcome pause from the pace of everyday life. There’s something deeply calming about spending an afternoon simply observing a scene, whether it’s a landscape or a building.
Interestingly, this piece became my first to be purchased. The owner of the shack at Beadnell Bay liked it enough to use the artwork on t-shirts and other merchandise. Although the business changed hands not long after, it was still a lovely milestone.
